Seventeen-years-old girl tried to jump from the top of BSM building. She tried to kill herself. If the mall security failed to stop her, she would become 16th student who have been killed in this week because of national examination. National examination is an exam to evaluate the education degree of student in elementary school, junior high school and senior high school. The students who pass the exam can continue their study to higher level while the students who are not will have to stay and follow the next national examination. This exam has become a big problem in Indonesia recently. As the one who ever join and feel the atmosphere of national examination, I believe that this exam would be a big problem because is unfair, full of cheating, and could disturb student’s mental & psychological.
How long we study at school? It takes six years in elementary school and three years in junior/senior high school. And how long we do the national examination? It is only takes a few days. So, do you think it is fair? Of course not! Many years we have spent our time to study at school only decided by a few days. Just imagine how lucky the lazy student who rarely come to the school, follow the exam and pass it. And now imagine how unfortunate the diligent student who always come to the school, follow the exam and fail.
It is not a secret again that national examination is full of cheating. All people know about that. Almost every students, no matter how stupid or smart they are, is cheating. Not only students, teachers hand headmaster are also trying to help their students in this exam. From sending a short message until come directly to the class, everything they do as long as they can make their students pass by 100%. After all that bad things happen, just imagine what will happen with our youngster? Cheating will become their habit & in the future, this country will be lead by many cheating leader. Oh, poor Indonesia.
Student’s mental & psychological is also can be disturbed by the national examination. It is very natural that the students, who are still child and teenager, will be stressful to face that kind of pressure. As a result, they cannot answer the question as smooth as their quality of brain and intelligence has to. Furthermore, students who failed in this exam can be really stressful and hopeless. They are become frustration. They do many dangerous things to express their sadness and anger such as, race, drug, free sex, until doing a suicide.
Peoples claim that national examination is very good for education in Indonesia. They said that it can evaluate and standardize our student’s education degree. I totally disagree with that statement. According to me, many students can pass the national examination because of their luck, not because they are diligent or clever. Yes, they are lucky to get the answer from teacher or friend. They are also lucky to have a healthy body when national examination being held. So, national examination cannot be the evaluation and standardization for our student’s education degree.
For many years, national examination has become very big problem for educational system in Indonesia. Education is a branch of everything. If this educational problem cannot be finished as soon as possible, all aspect in this country like economical, political, social & cultural will broken too. In short, I think there are no reasons for continuing national examination. National examination must be stopped and changed by a new better system.
